Taking Ahold

Ode to a Minister – A Courageous Leader - Constance Dierickx - The ...

Control is very powerful. Some of us seek to establish control, and others submit to it. Whether it be a sense of powerlessness, or simple anxiety, a sense of control is vital to establishing our grip on life. Some of us resort to religious ideologies, and others resort to criminal activity and affiliations in order to grab a hold of an identity and sense of belongingness. These forms of congregating allows us to be controlled by a leader or an overarching theme. We may ask ourselves, why do we have a burning desire to be led and guided along our own individualized paths? The answer resides in human nature in itself, the need to assert dominance and conquer territory of its own.

Throughout the primal periods of existence, our ancestors evolved on the basis of control. Many forms of government and religious figures emerged and sustained their existence by the mere ability to provide a sense of order to a population in disarray. As the saying goes, "history repeats itself" speaks volumes in terms of the human psych and our underlying need to follow orders. Creativity may seem appealing, but its spontaneity and unpredictable nature is not exactly what humans can build a foundation upon. Understanding this reasoning behind the importance of what drives us to belong to one another can lead to deeper findings behind the reasoning of our daily actions.

At times, over exertion of dominance can lead to a feeling of confinement and isolation. The inability to choose "at will" terms such as our employment, relationships, and even expression can easily lead to a host of deeper issues. The inability to act upon our instinctual nature can lead into a spiritual state of disconnect with what we project and the inner workings of our mind and emotions. This lack of correlation can lead to many issues such as depression and anxiety. These common ailments can affect many aspects of our lives, from job stability to interpersonal relationships. The inability to flourish personally and professionally can severely affect our wellbeing and our ability to connect with others.

The best piece of advice is to simply let the inner workings of our psych unfold slowly but surely. If you feel at odds with your current place in life, make some modifications in order to produce the right amount of discomfort that will allow your growth and progression. If you do not feel as though you are able to benefit from your current situation, create opportunities to introduce new challenges that will mold your experiences towards wisdom. Either way, every day is an opportunity to prove to yourself of what you are capable of, from dealing with minor annoyances and expanding your patience, to resolving your childhood trauma. Every day is an opportunity to move closer towards your desired journey. Do not let life take ahold of you, take ahold of life and move forward.
